Starch is a carbohydrate found in vegetables like corn, tapioca, potato, wheat, and rice.

Maize starch is a white or creamy powder with diverse direct applications in different industries.

Starch can be modified to suit the individual requirements of the users; such as known as chemical starch/Dextrin. The maize starch has application in diverse industries as a binder, stabilizer, yarn sizing, thickening and suspending agent, viz. textile, paints, detergent, paper, ceramics, pharmaceuticals etc. Beside such direct industrial applications of starch, it also converted into a range of starch derivatives, viz. Liquid Glucose, Dextrose Monohydrate, Dextrose Anhydrous, Malt dextrin, Sorbitol etc.; all of which have applications in the food processing and pharmaceuticals industries.

- Paper and carton manufacture:-

Maize starch is widely used in surface sizing.
It boosts eras ability and strengthens the paper.
It also increases the stiffness of the paper .Besides
It is used in surface sizing to improve the appearance and eras ability. Both native starch and modified starch like thin boiling starch, oxidized and esterifies starches have respective applications in paper manufacture.

-Pharmaceutical Industry:-

Pharmaceutical starch is mainly used in medicine, Preparation, tablet coating, drug formulation, etc.

-Textile industry:-

The most signification application are: sizing, finishing and printing .Since the usage of maize starch strengthens the yarn and hence breakages and minimized .consequently weaving efficiency is enhanced. It is used in the finishing, improving the appearance of the fabrics. Its uniform viscosity ensures the desired penetrations in the interstices of the weave and hence works as filler. Moreover, it also stiffens the fabrics. Maize starch produces a smooth and even paste and is stable in alkaline condition for preparing amidogen dyes for printing purposes. Furthermore, Modified starch is used as printing thickeners.
